Superintendent’s Update: Friday, November 1, 2024
Dear Batavia Families and Community,
November has arrived, so what does that mean for all of us here at BCSD?:
-
We recognize and salute all Veterans on Monday, November 11, with a federal holiday (no school).
-
BHS is planning its annual Veterans Day Recognition Event on Thursday, November 14. Are you a veteran, or do you know a veteran? If so, we invite them to join us at our event and be recognized for their service. Please call Batavia High School at 585-343-2480 ext. 2000 to RSVP.
-
In order to accommodate parent/teacher conferences, we have an early release day on Thursday, November 14. Specific times will be released shortly on ParentSquare, our website, and social media.
-
Friday, November 15, is a Superintendent's Conference Day, so there will be no school for our students—I hope they enjoy their long weekend!
-
Thanksgiving Recess is from Wednesday, November 27-Friday, November 29, with school resuming on Monday, December 2.
Please consult our website, the school calendar, ParentSquare, and social media for timely reminders—it is a lot to keep track of!
We are also nearing the end of the first quarter grading period, which means report cards will be ready for your review.
As you review your child’s report card, here are some ideas for discussion prompts:
-
How do you feel about your grades?
-
What subjects do you enjoy the most, and why?
-
Were there any surprises on your report card?
-
What do you think contributed to your successes or challenges in certain subjects?
-
Is there a specific area where you feel you can improve?
-
What goals would you like to set for the next grading period?
-
How can I support you in school?
-
Did you find anything particularly challenging?
-
What strategies did you find helpful for studying or completing assignments?
-
What can we celebrate from this report card?
-
How do you feel about the feedback from your teachers?
And, as you prepare for parent-teacher conferences, here are some discussion prompts to consider as you meet your children’s teachers:
-
What are my child’s strengths and areas for improvement?
-
How does my child participate in class discussions and activities?
-
What strategies do you recommend to support my child’s learning at home?
-
Are there any specific skills or concepts my child struggles with?
-
How does my child interact with their classmates?
-
What can you tell me about my child’s work habits and behavior in class?
-
Are there resources or materials you suggest for additional practice?
-
How can I help reinforce what my child is learning in school?
-
What are your expectations for my child for the rest of the school year?
-
What are some upcoming projects or assignments we should prepare for?
Have a wonderful November weekend, and Go Bills!
Thank you.
