Dear Batavia Families and Community,

On behalf of our Board of Education and leadership team, we are proud to present our Annual Report and Budget Newsletter for your review—arriving in your mailbox soon.

We are proud to showcase the varied academic and extracurricular programs offered across the Batavia City School District, along with detailed information on our proposed 2025-26 budget. I hope you will continue to find it informative.

You can also read the newsletter online, dive deeper into some of our feature stories, and find more information about this year’s budget vote at: bataviacsd.org/budget.

Our Board of Education takes its role as stewards of our District with great pride and a strong sense of purpose. At the same time, as they collaborate with the District and oversee the budget process, our Board also recognizes the balance between high-quality programs and upholding fiscal responsibility to our community, of which they and I are proud members.

We are proud to propose the 2025-26 budget that:

  •  Preserves all academic and extracurricular programs
  •  Aligns with and fully supports our Strategic Plan
  •  Places student achievement as the top priority, including our students’ social and emotional learning needs

On Monday, May 12, I will present the proposed 2025-26 budget at the annual Budget Hearing, where there will be a question-and-answer period.

Polls are open Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the following locations:

*For residents living north of Route 5 (Main Street), vote at Robert Morris, 80 Union Street (Multi-Purpose Room). Enter on Union Street at the entrance across from Notre Dame.

*For residents living south of Route 5 (Main Street), vote at Batavia High School, 260 State Street (High School Library).

Here’s a quick video on our polling locations.

I would also like to thank outgoing Board of Education Member John Marucci for his dedicated six years of service to our Board and District, with the last two years as our Board President. John has been a staunch supporter of our Batavia programs and has always prioritized the needs of our students at the forefront of his decision-making.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about the proposed 2025-26 budget.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. It continues to be a personal and professional pleasure to serve our students, staff, and families as the Superintendent of Schools for the Batavia City School District.

Sincerely,
Jason Smith
