Superintendent's Update: Friday, April 24, 2026

Posted Date: 04/24/26 (11:00 AM)

Dear Batavia Families and Community,

Happy Spring! One of my favorite signs of spring is our annual duck visitor and her babies at the Batavia High courtyard—be sure to check out the video on our Facebook page.

How nice it is to see our teams outside practicing and playing in sunny weather as the Class of 2026 prepares for graduation—it’s an exciting time of year!

This week, I had the honor of attending the Genesee County Youth Bureau Awards program, where Batavia High sophomore Devin Polk and Jackson Primary aide Susan Woodruff were duly recognized for their contributions to our community and school. Devin and Susan are amazing representatives of all that BCSD is, and we congratulate both of them.

I would like to congratulate junior Gus Crawford on his opportunity to compete in the “Stars of Tomorrow NYC Bound,” where winners are selected to represent Rochester, NY, in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as The Jimmy Awards. Surrounded by an amazing cast and crew, Gus was recognized for his leading role in our recent BHS Musical Anastasia. Gus is the first BHS student to achieve this honor.

As you hopefully saw this week on ParentSquare, our Board has approved updates to our BCSD calendar.  Below please find the school calendar for the remainder of the year, with changes highlighted. You can also find our full schedule on our website here (located in the "Popular Links" menu).

Friday, May 22: Memorial Day Weekend (No School)
Monday, May 25: Memorial Day Weekend (No School)
Friday, June 19: Juneteenth (No School)
Wednesday, June 24: Half-day for all students  (UPK-8, BHS will follow exam schedule)
Thursday, June 25: Half-day for all students (UPK-8, BHS will follow exam schedule). Last day of school for all students

I hope our families and staff can enjoy the extra day on the Memorial Day weekend to rest, relax, and honor our fallen heroes.

In the next few weeks, the annual budget newsletter will be in your mailboxes, along with profiles of Board of Education candidates.  The annual budget and Board of Education election vote is Tuesday, May 19, and hours and details are in the newsletter (one special note: those who normally vote at Robert Morris will vote at John Kennedy this year).

I wish each of you and your families a safe and enjoyable spring season, as we embark together on the final part of the 2025-2026 school year, which will be full of celebration and joy for our staff and students.

Thank you.
